I continue to struggle to wrap my head around the world we are living in. So many changes in such a short time. One thing that a lot of people are experiencing is the need to teleconference for one reason or another. It may be for work, it may be a doctor’s appointment, or it may be saying hello to grandparents. Most of us now have to learn to use video conferencing software like Zoom.

I did some digging and watched several different tutorial videos and I found one that had four hairstyles for zoom that are all perfect! So I went ahead and tried out all four and took pictures. The video itself is below and then some other basic tips for looking good on zoom.

I was able to do all four of these hairstyles with only this one XS Flexi hairclip (not the smallest size, the second to smallest).

Four Cute Hairstyles For Zoom

First is a twist that leaves one side of your hair down. I’ve never done a hairstyle like this! Having half my hair down is mostly impractical for me personally because my hair is down to my thighs, but for most people this is a cute and casual look that is super easy to do. In the second pictures you can see how I secured it with my flexi.

Second is a half up that has a little extra volume in the top by putting in a little twist and pushing it up a bit.

Third is a dutch lace accent braid that you can pancake out. Looks particularly pretty on lighter hair where you can see the details!

Next is this precious side bun, and even this one I secured with the same flexi — no other pins or elastics or anything.

The video tutorials

I’m thrilled I found all of these styles in just ONE video. And I’m surprised that it doesn’t have more views!

More Tips To Look Good On Zoom

Here are a few more suggestions that I came across as I was looking for cute hairstyles…

Use good lighting, which means it should be even on your face, not focused on one side of the other. If you can, put your computer or phone in front of a window with you facing it for natural light. Otherwise put two mirrors on your desk behind your computer, one for each side of your face.

mini ring light

You can also try a ring light. I got this super cheap little ring light that attaches to my phone and you could probably clip it onto your computer too if you have a built in webcam.

The next tip is to get your camera angle right. Usually having the camera slightly above you tilted down is the most flattering for women. If your webcam is built in you could try elevating your monitor a little bit and even sliding a magazine under the back to tilt it (but be careful you don’t knock the monitor over!)

Obviously I’m in favor of having a cute hairstyle, something that shows hair in the front so you don’t look bald on zoom.

Then you’ll want to wear something bright colored on top (no need to worry about what you have on the bottom!) Add just a small amount of makeup and one piece of jewelry or earrings. Avoid anything that will jangle and make noise or that you’ll be tempted to fiddle with.

A surprising tip I found was to smirk! Sometimes our neutral faces can come across disinterested, bored, or even angry. So it helps to practice having just a very slight smile on your face. Too big a smile and you look a bit deranged so just that hint of a smile.

Clear the space behind you so it doesn’t look cluttered or messy in the feed. It’s a good idea to get set up a few minutes before start time to make sure your set up is all just right.

And that is all my advice for looking good on Zoom!
